DAVID DARE PARKER

was an in-demand professional and successful musician when he decided to risk it all and follow his other great passion, photography. In 1982 he set out for the Middle East to become a photojournalist, the impact of that journey was to drive David to search for and document stories within stories. Indonesia and its seventeen thousand islands was the perfect place. He spent a decade covering the archipelago’s extreme’s of wealth and poverty, corruption and tensions, it’s ethnic and cultural diversity, it’s conflicts and most recently it’s struggle against nature, 2004’s devastating tsunami. David has photographed for many national and international magazines including LE MONDE, STERN, THE BULLETIN, TIME and AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC and has covered issues and events throughout Asia, Europe, Middle East and Australasia. Recent projects include coverage of East Timor’s struggle for independence and Indonesia’s first steps towards democracy. In 2002 he was invited to co-ordinate a safety awareness course for Afghan journalists and in 2003 he was the official war photographer for the Australian War Memorial.

His photographs are held in private collections and at the Australian War Memorial.

His work has been exhibited in America, Turkey, Australia and China and he is a recipient of the ‘WALKLEY AWARD’.
He lives in Perth and is journalist in residence at Murdoch University and is a director of FOTOFREO. David also shoots video and has worked extensively in film, television and the performing arts.
